Braves Bullpen Gets Even Worse

Rafael Soriano, the Atlanta Braves closer, is on the disabled list because of soreness in his elbow already repaired with Tommy John surgery. That does not bode well for our beloved Braves.

His DL spot paved the path for the Braves to call up pitcher Chuck James, who started the season where he left it in 2007, giving up 6 runs in one inning today against the Colorado Rockies, who put a pounding on the Braves. The Braves are now a woeful 3-6.

Manny Acosta is likely to close for the Braves, and there is not much confidence in Acosta from this fan. But it doesn’t matter because the way this season has started, the Braves won’t find themselves in many save opportunities.

My brother last night was trying to convince me that the season is very early and certainly not as onerous as we have portrayed it here at BravesNuWorld.

Someone needs to put the pressure on these guys.

The Braves are lacking a spiritual afflatus in the dugout that will rise them from the dead. That afflatus is their hearts. I don’t care how early in the season it is. I want to see those hearts on their sleeves. I want to see a team playing to win, even if they are losing by 7 runs as they were today. Right now, I see a team giving up when they are down.

Today’s points:

  • Mark Teixeira is still batting .167 after a 1-4 night. Yuck.
  • Brian McCann had a nice night going 3-4 with a homer.
  • Chuck James is not good and the Braves should really give up on him. He has no good pitch.
  • Chris Resop is completely awful and should be waived.
  • Chipper Jones still leads the team in batting average at .385
