Mike “Girly Man” Hampton took the mound for the Richmond Braves today and in the top of the 4th inning, all looked great for the oft-injured $15 million man. He pitched more t
han 70 pitches, 3 hits, walking 2 and striking out 4. I was started to get excited.
But the inevitable happened. And I nearly busted my head when it hit the drywall.
Pitching to the first batter in the 4th, the trainer came out and took Hampton out of the game. He left the game after giving up a double. It was not clear what was ailing girly man Hampton. But I am so sick and tired of this crap.
“This is real bad news for Braves fans,” the minor league announcers said.
Chuck James came in for relief and gave up a hit, which earned a run for Hampton.
Mike Hampton needs to retire and restructure his inflated contract to compensate the Braves for his health problems and inability to pitch a damn game in three years.
Hampton can single-handedly be attributed with the Braves’ downfall because the rotation has been a glaring weakness over the past three years. The Braves are cash strapped because Hampton is the highest-paid player on the team, and he hasn’t pitched a damn game since 2005. He has killed this team. Once a perennial winner is now losing too much. Thanks Hampton, you little girl!
I am so angry right now I cannot even put it into words.

It’s true that Hampton hasn’t exactly helped the braves at all the past 3 years, but to say they are tight on cash due to his contract is mostly false. The Marlins and Rockies are still paying about 2/3rd’s of the guys contract. as quoted by ESPN.com
“As Hampton nears the finish line of his eight-year, $121 million contract, here’s how that one breaks down: He will have been paid $35.5 million by the Braves, $38 million by a team he never pitched for (the Marlins) and $47.5 million by the team that originally signed him (the Rockies). ”
It’s really not THAT bad.. and don’t most baseball players have insurance clauses that help the team financially when things like this happen? I know Bagwell did.
Good points Arch. Good points.
