Just unbelievable.
That is the initial feeling I get after just watching the Milwaukee Brewers come back from being down 2-0 to beat the Atlanta Braves in the bottom of the ninth inning, 3-2. It’s another road loss for the Braves; it’s another one-run loss for the Braves.
But, the result should be absolutely believable, and sadly, expected.
Two lessons must be learned from this game.
The first one is a lesson in when to take a pitcher out of a game. There is no reason for Tim Hudson to remain in the game in the eighth inning after giving up the go-ahead hits. When he gave up the tying run on an unfortunate ground ball turned single because of an awkward bounce off of Hudson’s limb, it was too late. Why was he not taken out of the game before that scenario ever presented itself? Why is it so important to always push Hudson deep into the game when the score is so close?
The second lesson is certainly one for Jeff Bennett to master. Pay attention. It really shouldn’t be that difficult in a tie ball game, but somehow he failed to do just that. With speedy Bill Hall on second base, and with Bennett facing the direction of Hall’s run to third, he just ignored him. This allowed Hall to get a running lead off of second base that put him basically in the middle of the two bases. Still, Bennett had no clue and proceeds to make his wind up for the pitch. By the time it hit McCann’s glove, Hall was on third.
A basic pop up fly scored him. Game over.
I look forward to a time when I am surprised that the Braves lose games like this because I remember how it feels when they won these tight ballgames. It didn’t feel like this.

I’m still angry over this loss. I completely blame Jeff Bennett’s lack of ability to use fundamental baseball knowledge. I’ve got nothing else to say….I’m just angry.
True Bennett screwed up in a bad way, but there were a lot of lost opportunities for Braves to cushion the lead too. We had seven guys left on base last night.
Ashely, AKA Jeff Bennett protector, don’t even go there. He lost that game for us!!! WAKE UP JEFF!!!!
Ok maybe too harsh on Ashley…..still though, 7 guys lost on base is secondary to sleepy Bennett.
Hey now, I said Bennett screwed up, I’m just saying if we had had a few more cushion runs we would have been in a better boat to start. Geeeeze
hah
