Darkness Awaits Braves Away From Home

Finally, we can say that Mark Teixeira helped the Atlanta Braves win a game with good hitting at the right time. We can also thank Jorge Campillo for the same thing, as odd as it sounds. Together, they drove in six of the Braves eight runs in the 8-1 win against the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Brewers won the first two games, including a 1-0 embarrassment yesterday, ruining Jo Jo Reyes best career start.

But the pattern of wins is all too obvious for the Braves right now. Once they are out of Hotlanta, the sun comes down. This phenomenon is difficult to explain. We suggest a scientist test what the Braves drink in their own dugout and take that juice with them on the road. Who can make sense of this?

What is probably most irritating of all is the Braves could have easily won all three of these games. Consistency still seems to elude this team. As the unlikely appear with incredible performances (Reyes, Campillo) the go-to guys aren’t always there to support them. Heck, some of these guys even let Tim Hudson down after a gem performance.

Be lucky that the season is still relatively young and a lot can change from now to August. But it just seems unusual to me that the Braves are still competitive with the away record the team has right now.

How does a team with such a paltry record outside of their own comfort zone change? Which coach has that answer? With Bobby Cox’s fresh new one-year extension, it makes you wonder if he, and the rest of the Braves brass, believe they need just one more year to get that pennant. But, we the fans, heard this last year. Some of us knew that Tom Glavine and Tex were not going to be the saviors of ‘95. When dominance shows up at the mound, it lacks at the plate. When dominance shows up at the plate, it doesn’t matter who is on the mound.

When those two forces collide, the Braves appear unstoppable. When they don’t, they lose to the Brewers, Nationals and Pirates.

We fans may want to bring the flashlights because right now it does seem the sun just shines in Hotlanta.

  1. You know, you almost sound like you need a hug yourself.

  2. Do you still think Jorge is a fluke?

  3. Hey, if you guys ever get tired of seeing Tex, send him back to Texas. We would love to have him back.
