The Atlanta Braves are completely out of their mind for not trading Mark Teixeira yet, because we all know the team is not going to be able to afford his outrageous price come end of season. We also are pretty sure, as much as it pains us, that the Braves won’t contend for a playoff spot.
So, what’s the deal here? Instead, what I’ve been hearing is that Chuck James might be traded, and we know how much value we can get for him. If the Braves had any brainpower left in that mush, they’d trade Tex to the highest bidder and get a first baseman and prospects–young, left and right handed pitching prospects.
Whatever happened to the Kevin Youkilis deal?
See, the Braves haven’t had much luck from the farm system for good arms lately. And quite frankly, the entire farm system has been somewhat of a bust since Brian McCann. We’re still unsure of Yunel Escobar, especially this year because of his baby rants. Kelly Johnson and Jeff Francoeur appear to be average or just slightly above average in a team desperately in need of big-play stars.
The Braves are 19-26 since the end of May. God, that hurts so bad to repeat. 19-26. Ouch. They have not won three games in a row since MEMORIAL DAY for cripes sake.
Mark Teixeira is the best available trade bait in the game right now. The Braves are holding a chunk of gold, and so far, they’ve done little with it. What gold lining on the cloud is Frank Wren trying to see? It’s not there, buddy. Right now, it’s a storm, a near tornado, that’s struck down in Hotlanta. Fans are seeing a transformation of a decade-long run of excitement come to a screeching halt. And it is painful. I can barely watch a Braves game now. My TIVO is no longer running Braves games; it’s taking UFC fights on SPIKE.
According to the ESPN:
Every indication is that the Braves have at least touched base with the Rays, Red Sox, Dodgers, Angels and Yankees on Teixeira. But Arizona appears to be the team to watch. The Diamondbacks quietly made a big run at Teixeira last July, and they’re in just as serious need of some major thump now.
Which team has the best prospects, Wren? Find out, and hit a homer!
